The artist combines two symbols of freedom and travel into one with this light-hearted piece. Butterflies and bicycles have far more in common than one might think. The butterfly with its ability to fly away and the bicycle which allows one to journey off into adventure. With light colors, this butterfly symbolizes the warmth of a sunny spring or summer day. However, we cannot forget that fall riding is just as adventurous, thus the subtle hints of leaves blowing in the winds are present in the left wing. The basic frame of the butterfly is created using tin, which is powder-coated with a black finish and makes this piece safe to use outdoors. The edges of the frame are reinforced using thicker tin wire. The front of this piece is adorned in areas with capiz shell, an oyster native to the Philippines, before being hand-painted and sealed with a water-based sealant.
